[12 November 2015] GEO GI-08 Oceans and Society: Blue Planet included in the 2016 GEO Work Programme: The GEO Plenary held on November 11-12, 2015 in Mexico City endorsed the 2016 GEO Work Programme, which includes the GEO Initiative GI-07 “Oceans and Society: Blue Planet”. This Initiative evolved out of the thematic tasks SB-01 “Oceans and Society: Blue Planet” in the 2011-2015 GEO Work Plan.



[29 May 2015] CZCP contributed to 2nd Blue Planet Symposium: The co-chairs of the CZCP chaired several sessions at the 2nd Blue Planet Symposium held on May 27-29, 2015 in Cairns, Australia, where progress, status, and future plans for several of the priority activities in Task Components 2 (for the CZCP, specifically, a mangrove monitoring service) and Component 4 (for the CZCP, specifically, interannual to decadal sea level forecasting, coastal water quality, and a global coastal zone information system) were discussed. [29 August 2013] CZCP Meeting held in College Park, MD, USA: The CZCP held a planning meeting on August 27-18, 2013 at the NOAA offices in College Park, MD, USA. The meeting reviewed CZCP activities during the last year and considered a number of activities for the next years. Main outcomes were a proposal for a new component of the GEO Task SB-01 "Oceans and Society: Blue Planet" and the recommendation to establish a Sea Level Rise Community of Practice. [18 June 2013] CZCP interacts with ICAN: The CZCP was presented at the ICAN-6 Workshop. The coordination of a integrated coastal zone information system to be bdeveloped by the CZCP with the International Coastal Atlas Network (ICAN) was discussed and further deliberations will take place in the near future.

[8 August 2011] CZCP organizes session at AGU Ocean Science Meeting: The CZCP is organizing Session 106 “Development of a Prototype, Science-based Coastal Information System for Routine Assessments and Monitoring of Coastal Zones in Developed and Developing Nations” at the AGU Ocean Science Meeting to be held on 20-24 February 2012 in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. [6 June 2011] Multiple ocean stresses threaten “globally significant” marine extinction: At it first inter-discplinary workshop, the International Programme on the State of the Ocean (IPSO) consider the cumulative impact of multiple stressors on the ocean, including warming, acidification, and overfishing. The 27 participants from 18 organisations in 6 countries concluded that the world's ocean is at high risk of entering a phase of extinction of marine species unprecedented in human history. More than 55 participants from a wide range of stakeholders in sustainable tourism in the Caribbean discussed improved Earth observation support for planning and operation of tourist infrastructure and for disaster reduction.
